You’ve booked your boudoir session—yay! First off, take a moment to celebrate yourself. Whether you’re doing this as a gift, a personal milestone, or a confidence boost, you’ve taken a bold and beautiful step. And while it might feel a little nerve-wracking (totally normal, by the way), the more prepared you are, the more comfortable and confident you’ll feel when it’s time to step in front of the camera. Here are some tips on how to prepare for your boudoir session.
Here’s your go-to self-care checklist to help you feel amazing for your shoot—inside and out.
Water is your best friend the week leading up to your session. As you think about how to prepare for your boudoir session, aim for at least 8 glasses a day to keep your skin glowing and your body feeling energized. Try to cut back on salty foods or alcohol the night before, which can cause bloating or dryness. Think of it as prepping for a mini spa day—because you deserve it.
Start gently exfoliating your body a couple of days before your session to slough off dead skin and reveal that natural glow. Follow up with a hydrating lotion—bonus points if it smells amazing. If you plan to shave or wax, do so 24–48 hours ahead of time to avoid redness or irritation.
Thinking of a spray tan? Go light, and schedule it at least two days in advance to avoid streaking. Always test the color ahead of time if it’s your first one.
Treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure—or just make sure your nails are clean and tidy. Neutral tones, soft pinks, or classic reds all photograph beautifully. If you regularly shape your brows, give them a tidy-up. Waxing, shaving, or tweezing should be done a day or two before to let your skin settle.
Here’s the secret: you don’t have to wear lingerie at all if that’s not your vibe. Think cozy off-the-shoulder sweaters, a favorite oversized button-down, a silky robe, or even a bodysuit. The best outfits are the ones that make you feel sexy, not what you think you “should” wear.

Make sure to try everything on beforehand—comfort is key, and you want to know how it fits and feels in advance.
A good night’s sleep the night before can work wonders on your mood and skin. On the morning of your session, do some light stretching or a little yoga to loosen up and shake out any jitters. Bring water and a playlist that pumps you up (or calms you down)—whatever gets you in the zone.
Remember, boudoir isn’t about having a “perfect” body or knowing how to pose. It’s about showing up as you—strong, soft, confident, playful, powerful, or whatever you’re feeling. Your photographer will guide you every step of the way. All you have to do is trust the process, be yourself, and allow yourself to shine.
You’ve got this. And trust me—future you will be SO glad you did this for you!
