Steve had been planning this moment for weeks. He picked out the perfect spot inside the gardens surrounded by greenery, and reached out to me to secretly photograph the big moment.
Planning a Proposal at Wellfield Botanic Gardens
If you’ve ever visited Wellfield Botanic Gardens in Elkhart, Indiana, you know how magical it feels, especially in late summer. The golden light filters through the trees, the gardens are peaceful, and there are so many scenic spots that make it the perfect setting for a proposal.
Steve wanted the moment to feel private and meaningful, so we coordinated a plan ahead of time down to where I’d be hiding (camera ready!) and how he’d lead his girlfriend to the exact spot. When the moment came, she was completely surprised and so emotional and it was beautiful to witness.
Capturing the Surprise and the Joy
As a proposal photographer in Northern Indiana, I love the mix of nerves, joy, and love that fills these moments. I waited incognito as Steve got down on one knee, and the look on her face said it all with pure, stunned happiness.
After the proposal, we spent some time walking through the gardens for a short couples session to celebrate and document that post-engagement glow. They laughed, held hands, and couldn’t stop smiling and you could feel the joy radiating between them.
