When I’m not photographing weddings and family sessions, I sometimes get to work with amazing people for lifestyle headshot sessions. As someone who is online, showing up in the social media world, I know what it’s like to need great headshots! And I’m not talking your dated blue backdrop, flash-in-the-face, hand-on-the-chin, look, friends! Let’s just not. These days, I believe people are looking for connection in person, but also online, and for myself, one of the first things I do when looking at a new brand or company, is to find a photograph of the face behind the brand, the owner of the company, because it helps me connect with them on a human level. Photos tell a story, a snippet of who you are and what you value, and that is true for weddings, family sessions, and also headshots. This is why I *love* photographing lifestyle headshots, because they are more than just fun photos, they are part of someone’s story, a way to help that person connect with their potential clients, their audience, their community. And I’m ALL about connection.
I’ll be sharing more from some amazing headshot sessions I’ve been honored to photograph, but first up is one of my all-time favorites! I met Joelle last year when I modeled some boudoir for her (which, she is an AMAZING photographer and you should probably go check her out right now) and Sam at a photography workshop last year. (Sam is a fabulous website guru, and her work is awesome!) When Joelle reached out to ask me to shoot some lifestyle headshots for them, I jumped at the opportunity!
We met downtown Indianapolis at The Garden Table first off, so we could get some really fun working shots in a space that is just gorgeous. (If you haven’t been, I highly recommend their Tuscan toast at the Broad Ripple location, and basically anything else because all their food is so good!) Since Joelle is a pro and had a clear vision for the images she wanted, she had a lot of shot ideas for me, and we worked through capturing the looks that she knew would reflect her and Sam well for their business.
If you’re someone who wants branding/lifestyle headshots, but you aren’t quite as sure as these ladies were on the vision for your shoot, never fear, because I work with headshot clients to plan out the style and look that will best reflect them and their work! I use questionnaires, conversations, and planning to make sure the session is really efficient and spot on the feel and vibe and result my clients want.
Next, we headed to a fun pink wall in downtown Indianapolis for some branded looks – as the colors matched really well with the brand colors for Joelle and Sam!
Lastly, we headed to Broad Ripple, Indiana and hit up Brics for some ice cream and fun shots, because it matched the energy Joelle and Sam brought to the table, and worked really well with the vibe they give! Not everyone will want to use ice cream, or coffee, but that’s the beauty of these sessions – we work with who you are and what your personality is, and get you images that will show these parts of you so you can start making connections with potential clients and they’ll know what you’re about even before they talk to you, dm you, or inquire with you.
Check out some of my favorite shots below, and if you’re looking for some fun, laid back lifestyle headshots, I would love to chat! Check out my inquiry form, or send me a dm or email, and let’s talk!
