Kari and Darren’s South Bend elopement photos were such a fun way to end my 2023 year! These two got married at the courthouse in downtown South Bend just a few days before Christmas and it was such a fun morning!
Photos outside the Courthouse
Since photography isn’t allowed inside the courthouse, Kari and I arranged for me to meet them directly after their ceremony. I waited outside the beautiful courthouse building in South Bend, and was so excited to meet Kari and Darren. After they walked out, we did a few family photos with their parents and then started some wedding portraits.
Historic Buildings in South Bend
For their South Bend elopement photos, Kari and Darren wanted to highlight some of the historic buildings and architecture downtown. They both love visiting small towns and checking out historic buildings, and have a love and appreciation for old buildings. So they scouted some buildings near the courthouse that were perfect for photo backdrops. I absolutely love finding unique little backdrops for photos, so this made me so happy to hear when Kari told me the vision for photos they had.
Among the courthouse buildings, we also checked out a historic church building, the Morris Performing Arts Center and a few others on our walk around the city.
A Christmas vibe for photos
In addition to historic buildings, Kari and Darren also love Christmas and Christmas lights and decor. Being that they got married on December 22, downtown South Bend was decked out with some fun Christmas decorations.
We found a cool wreath wall, a large Christmas tree, and some fun Christmas ornament installations near Morris Performing Arts Center.

I love all of my couples and all of their unique wedding celebrations. I love when couples choose only the elements that really reflect them, and that’s exactly what Kari and Darren did. It was such a pleasure to work with this couple and I wish them all the happiness as they start this next part of their story together!
