This lifestyle newborn session in Greenwood, Indiana was a reminder once again of why I love working with families.
I’ve been working with this family for a few years now. It warms my heart so much when I get to work repeatedly with families. Jessie co-owns Revel Design and I’ve also had the honor of photographing her and her partner.
Jessie asked me to shoot this newborn session in their newly-renovated living room because they are in the process of renovating their home. I always tell families that they don’t need an HGTV perfect home for sessions. I’ll find beautiful spots to shoot newborn sessions, and the minimalist feel of this wall in the living room felt so perfect.
Lately I’ve been working to move toward more of a documentary feel when I shoot a lifestyle newborn session.
Yes, I still offer gentle posing prompts. But when there are puppies and young children and a little bit of beautiful chaos happening, posing perfectly just isn’t going to happen. I love documenting the feeling of welcoming a new baby into the home. That’s why I love encouraging families for newborn sessions to embrace the chaos that inevitably will happen.
It’s more of a picture of real life, and I love getting to freeze those moments in time for families.
