This Chicago engagement session was truly one for the books. Kevin and Daniel are two of the most kind and stunning people I’ve gotten to work with. Their love for each other was so evident throughout their session, and I absolutely loved seeing some of the special spots around Chicago they love.
Kevin and Daniel call Chicago home
Though their upcoming wedding will take place in Bloomington, Indiana, Kevin and Daniel live in Chicago and wanted engagement photos in their beautiful city. Just before moving to Chicago, Kevin proposed to Daniel at McCormick’s Creek State park, so the move to a new city held a lot of special beginnings for the couple. We met in their neighborhood of Logan Square to start, and it was so fun seeing the parks and streets they frequent day-to-day.
We met at a park they walk to often, and started the session with their first look. Daniel and Kevin came so prepared, with a goodie bag full of items they might need for the session. They both sported white sneakers, so there were wipes in there, towels for the heat and potential sweat on a brow, water, etc. (hey, take hints my dear couples!)
We got photos around Logan Square
Logan Square Theater is special to these two, so we made sure to stop by and get some really cool shots in front for their Chicago engagement session. Then we walked, I photographed, and we talked. We talked about their story, how they each proposed, their favorite food spots, and more.
I love sessions like this so much, how I get to know my couples more since we get to spend more time together.
We finished their Chicago engagement session at Buckingham Fountain
Daniel proposed to Kevin at Buckingham Fountain, so it was one of the locations they wanted to shoot at. We had to navigate traffic and outfit changes, so by the time we started at our final spot, the sun was basically gone. We made some beautiful blue light photos, and the city behind them, along with the lit up fountain was so gorgeous. It fit their story well though, since they had some similar traffic-related timing on the evening of the proposal. Daniel said it just fit that we shot as the sun was going down and I loved that so much.
It was truly an honor to work with Kevin and Daniel for their Chicago Engagement session, and I look forward to their wedding next year!
I’ve started asking engaged couples something they love about each other, and I’d like to leave that here:
Daniel about Kevin:
“Kevin is my rock, biggest cheerleader, and my best friend. He fills our life with so much love and laughter. On the emotional side, I love his passion for what he does, and the way that he fully commits himself to those that he loves so fully – he is the best friend to everyone, and that’s what makes him so special. On the physical side, I was initially drawn to his smile.”
Kevin about Daniel:
“On the emotional side, I definitely love his intellect and his supportiveness. He is incredibly smart (and sometimes a bit nerdy in a cute way). He also supports me in a way that I always feel safe and able to be authentically myself. And especially in his giggly times, he always makes me laugh. Physically, it’s definitely his smile. Just makes me all warm and fuzzy. That’s also probably what first drew me to him, followed by that fact that I felt he was genuinely interested in me and my life from the start.”
