For these engagement photos in Newaygo, Michigan, I met this lovely couple, Shelby and Brad! Engagement sessions are so much fun and a great way to get to know my couples before their wedding day. Shelby and Brad were so warm and kind, and their connection was so beautiful.

While Shelby and Brad live in South Bend, Shelby’s family has a lake house in Newaygo, Michigan that’s been in her family for a few generations. Located on one of the many lakes there, it sits in a beautiful wooded area and has a gorgeous little dock.

I love incorporating special locations for couples during their sessions, so I was definitely game to drive up to Newaygo and photograph them there. In fact, I made a weekend trip out of it, and my sister tagged along. We got a cute Airbnb in the area and went fishing, kayaking, and enjoyed the quiet calm of the lake community.

Highly recommend having me come to your vacation home and working with you there. 🙂

Brad and Shelby found a beautiful field location as well

Before shooting at Shelby’s lake house, we drove a short way to a piece of land. It’s used for off-roading and is also protected by the Michigan DNR. It has gorgeous open grassy areas, and pine forests still standing from conservation efforts in the 1920s.

When they drove me into the location, it took my breath away with how beautiful it was. Michigan is just such a gorgeous state, with so many beautiful and diverse landscapes.

We picked a few spots and the dust that got kicked up from the adjacent off-road vehicles in the distance. It made for such a dreamy combination as the sun was setting.

Moving back to the lake house, Shelby and Brad changed into different outfits. Then we took some photos on their dock. I hopped in the water to get some fun images for them. They also jumped in the water near the end, so fun! Their sweet fur baby joined in too for some photos!

Shelby said she wanted her engagement photos to be a mix of open fields, forest, and inland lake vibes. It was so much fun to deliver just that for her. I absolutely loved meeting these two, and look forward to their spring wedding coming up!
